One of the world's largest private equity and venture capital conferences—SuperReturn International 2016—is going on this week in Berlin. PitchBook CEO John Gabbert is there presenting on global venture capital trends, including deal & exit activity, unicorn valuations, fundraising and much more. You can check out the full slide deck below.
Attending the conference? Visit our booth in the 'exhibition' area near the coffee bar and we'll gladly look up any company, LP, investor or person and give you an on-demand demo of the PitchBook Platform.
VC funds are deploying a steady amount of capital, but 'tourist VCs' (e.g. Tiger Global, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs) have contributed to a massive boom in venture capital invested since 2013.
Unicorn rounds have skyrocketed, with 113 different deals bringing in close to $30B in 2015.
The median late-stage valuation has nearly tripled from $66M in 2010 to $184M in 2015.
2014 returned a record $54B to LPs; 2015 is likely to be similar.
The IRR medians of recent fund vintages are way up, with notable highs for 2010 (19.6%) and 2013 (18.4%); however, 80%-95% of IRR in the last five years is unrealized.
