PitchBook has released the Global PE & VC Benchmarking & Fund Performance Report, covering multitudes of metrics such as IRRs, fund return multiples, cash flows and KS PME benchmarks. Here’s a look at some of the key stats and trends gathered from the report:
VC fund returns for several vintages improved significantly over the last year, and are now producing returns similar to the public markets, or in some cases even outperforming the public markets, as shown by PME values of over 1.
Energy-focused funds have done extremely well over the last decade with high cash-on-cash multiples.
Post-crisis vintages for secondary funds are shaping up to be some of the best on record.
The recovery of IRRs for mid-decade vintages continues as a result of increases in distributions and valuations over the 1 and 3-year horizons.
PE funds distributed $232 billion to their LPs in 2013, setting a new record for annual global private equity distributions.
