Actively recruiting? Here are some tips on sourcing talent in the PitchBook Platform.
With all the talk about Google’s and Uber’s CFOs stepping down (for admirable reasons, I might add), I’m going to focus this search on CFOs. Plus, our customer success team is frequently asked about finding CFOs in PitchBook—whether it’s with experience taking a company public, through an acquisition or an intensive growth period.
Given that we track thousands of C-level execs, PitchBook is a great place to start sourcing candidates and get the lowdown on their past and current successes. I’m going to show you an example of how to source CFOs in the adtech industry—both executives involved with exits and those working at fast-growing private companies.
To get a good sense of the space and line up the companies we’ll target CFOs from, I like to start with a couple industry-specific searches for exits and investments. For this example, I ran an exit search for previously VC-backed adtech companies based in the U.S. that have gone public (like MKTO and YUME) or have been acquired (BrightRoll, MoPub, etc.) in the last several years. I also ran a search from the investment perspective for U.S.-based adtech companies that are still privately held, but have raised late stage funding since 2013 and have at least $50 million in total funding.
Depending on what kind of executive you’re looking for, there are a few different ways you can develop your targeted CFO list from here. One suggestion I have is to filter for the top exits by deal size and stack rank the top companies using our PB Signals metrics like Growth Rate.
Using this logic, I grabbed the top exits based on size and top startups based on Growth Rate and loaded their CFOs into a people search to come up with this narrowed down list of 31 CFOs at top adtech companies.
Have you found other creative ways to source candidates in PitchBook? If so, we’d love to hear about them!
