58 Companies Complete Eighth Round in the Last Year
July 12, 2012
When positioning a company for an exit, there are no concrete rules to the number of rounds of funding it needs to raise first. Some companies go public with ease, while others wait it out with private backing—for example, Groupon inked five rounds in about three years before its IPO, while Twitter is still in the midst of raising its $800 million Series G financing. Taking a look at VC deals in the last year, 117 companies have completed at least eight rounds, according to the PitchBook Platform. 58 of those companies have now closed on eight rounds total; another 25 have secured nine rounds; and the remaining 34 companies have raised ten or more rounds to date.
