India's Zoomcar has raised $8 million in an equity round led by Sequoia Capital. Differing from other car services such as Ola and Uber, Zoomcar is a self-drive service enabling users to rent a car or SUV by the hour, day, week or month. Launched in Bangalore in 2013 with seven cars, the company has added services in Pune—with plans to expand further—and now has over 250 vehicles available.
In each of the past three years, Sequoia has participated in investments totaling over $100 million in Indian companies. Its portfolio includes the likes of Ola, Capillary Technologies and TinyOwl Technology.
