Accelerators and micro VCs expanding beyond usual geographies
February 26, 2016
Recently we've seen a handful of accelerators and micro VC funds announce programs and vehicles targeting geographies that may not come to mind first when thinking of up-and-coming startup communities.
News recently broke that MassChallenge, a startup accelerator originating in Boston, will be setting up a program in Mexico City, stretching its already expansive international presence (MassChallenge also has offices in Israel and London).
500 Startups has been on a roll over the past year too, most recently announcing a $25 million Southeast Asia-focused fund, set to back startups in countries such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
A new mobile-oriented accelerator was also just launched in Barcelona as a joint venture between digital innovation organization NUMA and mVenturesBcn.
Be on the lookout for more coverage from us about the expansion of micro VCs and accelerators into geographies outside the U.S. in the weeks to come.
