Financial software startup Affirm has raised $45 million in equity and debt for its payment solution platform. The company, started by PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, offers online payment financing through personal identification, rather than a credit card. Users enter personal information, such as name, phone number and date of birth, and after a verification process are lent the money immediately. Affirm also stays in touch with borrowers, through text message, sending reminders about payment due dates. The funding was raised from Khosla Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners and NYCA Partners, among others.
