American Securities has completed the acquisition of Emerald Performance Materials from Sun Capital Partners, in a deal rumored to be $1 billion. EPM's products enable end users to make goods that perform better through a variety of applications, such as adding color to paint and cosmetics, adding longevity to tires, imparting strength to adhesives and composites, providing scents to perfumes and soaps, and preserving soft drinks. Emerald has eight operations and approximately 750 employees. Backed by Sun Capital since 2006, the company completed several add-ons during the firm's holding period, including those of CVC Specialty Chemicals and DSM Special Products. EBITDA grew threefold over the same timeframe.
