A follow-up project similar to anonymous sharing app Secret may be in the works, according to one of the company’s cofounders. David Byttow posted on his personal Facebook last weekend that "Secret V2 is coming. It's too important not to exist," and later clarified in a Medium post his desire to be involved in a new project "that can help provide a safe space for speaking truth." Byttow also wrote that he remains focused first on Bold, the provider of a long-form content sharing tool that he currently runs.
Almost immediately after it was founded in 2013, Secret was one of the industry's hottest startups. At the time, VCs were very bullish (or perhaps lemming-like) on services that enabled users to post anonymously, supposedly freeing users from existing social constructs and enabling them to be their "real" selves. Whisper and Yik Yak were among the like-minded companies funded.
