Apttus, the provider of a quote-to-cash software platform designed to automate revenue operations, has raised an $88 million Series D from both new and existing investors. The company has now secured a total of $274 million in funding, including a $108 million Series C in September 2015. Apttus investors include Salesforce Ventures and ICONIQ Capital.
Founded in 2006, Apttus has taken a bit of a different approach to building an enterprise software business. The company was bootstrapped for its first six years—achieving operational profitability in that time—before it raised a $37 million round in 2013 as its first outside investment. With freshly refilled coffers, a path back to operational profitability and plans for a potential 2017 IPO, Apttus is an apt reminder that there's more than one way to build a company.
