As the grocery world turns: Apollo buys The Fresh Market for $1B+, Haggen offloads stores

Apollo Global Management has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire specialty grocery retailer The Fresh Market (NASDAQ: TFM) for about $1.36 billion in cash. It's been a busy past few days for PE in the grocery retail sector; less than a week ago, Haggen agreed to sell 29 of its core stores in the northwest U.S. to Cerberus Capital Management-backed Albertsons for a reported $106 million.
