Bitnet Technologies, provider of a bitcoin payment platform, has landed a Series A investment led by Highland Capital Partners. The $14.5 million funding comes as Bitnet launches its platform and builds its teams for sales, marketing and customer support. Its platform was designed to enable enterprise-scale merchants to accept bitcoin payments, with transaction fees of under 1% and no cross-border charges. Peter Bell of Highland Capital will join the Board of Directors.
With the platform, merchants also receive guaranteed payment, with prices set and payments made in local currency. Consumers are also protected, their payments secured via multi-sig escrow services. Merchants can also take a percentage of their payment in bitcoin, which is trading near $380 after being as high as $1147 and as low as about $183 in the past 12 months.
