Private equity firms haven't shied away from investing in California-based companies over the past few years, even as The Golden State has crawled its way through its own state-wide financial downturn. Since the beginning of 2010, PE investment has been remarkably steady in the state, according to the PitchBook Platform. Whether the trend holds through this year is another question; year-to-date 2013 deal activity is around 80% of where it was at this point in 2012.
Information technology companies accounted for 17% of the deal activity in the timeframe, and the IT industry's software sector, alone, had a 9.4% share. Investments in the financial services industry have slowed considerably since 2010.
