Cancer-related Companies Take In Decade-high $4.7B of VC in 2014

Since the start of 2012, venture capital investment in companies active in oncology has increased significantly each year, hitting a decade-high $4.68 billion in 2014. During that stretch, the median size of deals for these companies has also soared, jumping from $3.5 million in 2012 to $10 million so far in 2015. Helping drive this surge have been recent massive investments in Moderna Therapeutics ($450M), Mevion Medical Systems ($200M), Adaptive Biotechnologies ($195M) and Juno Therapeutics ($134M). Since 2012, a combined 637 companies working within the field of oncology have attracted VC funding, with the total value of those deals coming in at $12.15 billion.
