Climbing Multiples, Strong Exit Activity & the Middle-Market is King
January 18, 2012
Looking back at private equity in 2011, it’s clear to see the industry championed the lows suffered in 2009 and maintained steady performance from 2010. This year’s Annual Private Equity Breakdown, powered by PitchBook and sponsored by Merrill DataSite, highlights emerging trends and key data compiled from the PitchBook Platform that contributed to 2011’s performance. Chief among the findings within the report is strong and sustained exit activity over the last four quarters, with a total of 415 completed sales or IPOs. Other observations include a review of a still-challenging fundraising environment, which found its stride in middle-market funds, the reemergence of large deals, and a look at multiples in 2011, which climbed back up to near all-time highs set in 2008.
