After scoring a $1.5 million Series A round of funding at an $11 million valuation in 2008, MongoDB has managed to land an investment every year since, racking up a total of over $231 million in funding to date. The company's valuation climbed to $615 million last year, when it raised $50 million in Series E funding led by NEA. The new investment values MongoDB at a reported $1.2 billion and marks the largest single VC funding round for any database vendor.
The company will use the new funds to further invest in the core MongoDB project, as well as in MongoDB Management Service, a suite of tools and services to operate MongoDB at scale. In addition, the company will extend its efforts in supporting its growing user base throughout the world. MongoDB has dual headquarters in Palo Alto and New York with additional offices in Atlanta, Barcelona, London, Sydney and Washington D.C., and currently has more than 320 employees worldwide.
