Since the beginning of 2011, PE investors have completed 623 investments in companies headquartered in the South region of the U.S., according to the PitchBook Platform. With only 237 of those deals taking place this year, 2012 is currently lagging behind 2011 in terms of investment pace. Both the Energy and Information Technology industries have seen significant increases in their share of yearly activity from 2011 to 2012—their shares have risen seven and four percentage points, respectively. Overall, Energy has been the second most active industry in the region during the roughly two-year time period, accounting for a quarter of the South's activity. Conversely, industries that have seen significant decreases in their shares are the Healthcare and Financial Services industries.
