European Financings Fall for Fourth Straight Quarter

The number of venture capital financings in Europe fell for the fourth straight quarter in 1Q 2014, according to PitchBook's 2Q 2014 European PE Breakdown report. By that measure, VC activity is reaching levels not seen since the immediate aftermath of the global financial crisis. 279 VC financings were made in the first quarter, down from 437 in 1Q 2013 and 338 in 4Q 2013. Most of the decline is centered in hard-hit Southern Europe, where countries like Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy continue to face headwinds and economic uncertainty.
