VC-backed Kabam, a developer of free-to-play games for traditional players, has acquired San Francisco-based game studio Phoenix Age. The acquired company specializes in mobile and social platforms, including Facebook, Myspace and iOS; its games have over 15 million users. Phoenix Age is the first acquisition for Kabam in 2014 and will bolster Kabam’s games catalogue with durable franchises in the role-playing game genre across mobile and Web platforms. Phoenix Age's 44 employees will continue to operate in the company's current San Francisco headquarters. Global independent investment bank Woodside Capital Partners acted as financial advisor to Phoenix Age.
