Geomagic, a scanning and design software developer that looks to capture and model 3D content from physical objects, has agreed to be acquired by 3D Systems (NYSE: DDD). The deal is expected to close in the first quarter. Geomagic has raised several rounds of venture funding, including a recent $8 million round led by Valhalla Partners in 2008. Fairview Capital Partners is also eyeing its exit in the deal. Geomagic has sold its technology to a broad range of customers, including the aerospace, consumer products, toys, surgical simulation, medical device, research and education industries, among others.
