Singapore's GIC has acquired 18.5% stake in Abril Educação (SAO: ABRE11), an education services company. Abril serves the K-12 market in Brazil with a portfolio of products and services, including learning systems, textbooks, prep courses and language schools. The company, which went public in 2011, closed at R$37.30 ($16.41) on Thursday with a market cap of around R$3.24 billion ($1.4 billion). That would have made GIC’s stake worth about R$599 million ($264 million). Earlier this year, Abril was reportedly in talks with The Carlyle Group and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts regarding a minority stake in the company.
