Government Pension Investment Fund of Japan to Invest in PE?

The Government Pension Investment Fund of Japan is rumored to be looking to invest in private equity. The WSJ reports that the GPIF may partner with the International Finance Corporation, providing around $500 million for PE investments by IFC in developing economies. GPIF's investment portfolio is valued at JPY141.1 trillion ($1.1 trillion)—the fund has been moving to diversify further in the past year.
