With the healthcare industry facing some big changes in the coming years, we took to the PitchBook Platform to check on recent exit activity in the space. Since the beginning of 2011, PE investors have exited 153 U.S.- or Canada-based companies in the healthcare industry. 2012 was the high-water mark for the time frame with 73 exits, topping 2011's 64 exits. 2013 isn't on pace to top either of those years, with only 16 exits to date. Accounting for 60% of all exits since 2011, corporate acquisitions seem to be the exit method of choice for investors. Secondary buyouts accounted for 37% of all exits. IPOs? Only 3%.
