Healthcare Enterprise Systems Deals Down. So, How's the Space Doing Well?

For the first time in five years, the number of annual VC deals completed for U.S.-headquartered, healthcare enterprise systems companies declined in 2013. Before the decline to 35 last year, the number of deals completed each year was on the rise, jumping from 18 in 2008 to 41 in 2012. But though the industry saw a decrease in deals in 2013, the median size for the deals almost doubled to $6.5 million that year from $3.4 million in 2012. Additionally, the median post-money valuation for healthcare enterprise systems companies receiving funding rose in 2013, beating the previous year by over $2 million and outdoing 2011's $9.7 million median valuation by $13 million.
