HelloFresh joined the growing list of meal delivery companies receiving funding recently, after it announced that it raised $50 million in Series D financing. The investment was led by Insight Venture Partners, and joined by existing investor Phenomen VC, and brings the company's total funding to an estimated $70 million. Subscribers to the service choose a box containing three to five recipes, and all the ingredients are portioned, packaged and delivered once per week to the customer's door. HelloFresh reported it ships over a million meals per month in the U.S.
Food delivery services have been growing in popularity with the public and with investors. HelloFresh's $50 million funding matches Blue Apron's Series C from April, and tops financings raised by Munchery ($28 million) and Instacart ($44 million), both from earlier this year.
