GI Partners has agreed to sell SoftLayer Technologies, a cloud computing infrastructure provider, to IBM (NYSE: IBM). Minority investors Clearspring Capital Group and Vencore Capital are also eyeing their exits with the sale. Based in Dallas, SoftLayer allows its clients to buy enterprise-class cloud services on dedicated or shared servers, offering clients a choice of where to deploy their applications. The company serves about 21,000 customers with a global cloud nifrastructure platform spanning 13 data centers in the U.S., Asia and Europe. GI Partners led a management buyout of the company in August 2010.
