Investment in Gaming Industry Steadily Leveling Up
April 01, 2013
Let’s go back in time just 15 years. The only mobile game available was Snake, console gaming systems boasted graphics that would make us laugh today, and “multi-player games” involved a wooden table, a board game, your siblings and mom and dad. We’ve come a long way since then. Today, there are not only an immense amount of console games, mobile games and multi-platform games that can be accessed from virtually anywhere, but the graphics and capabilities of those games are also amazing. As both the number of games and the number of people who play them have increased, so too has investment in the Gaming space. According to the PitchBook Platform, 126 U.S.-headquartered Gaming companies have attracted VC investments since the beginning of 2009, adding up to 170 deals. During that timespan, total capital invested in the industry each year has increased, more than doubling from $111 million in 2009 to $289 million in 2012.
