Investors Support Cancer Cure Quest with $7.1B Since 2007

Venture investors are doing their part in the quest to cure cancer. According to the PitchBook Platform, U.S. companies in the Oncology vertical have raised 528 financings totaling an impressive $7.1 billion in combined venture funding since the beginning of 2007. Deal activity has remained relatively stable, ranging from a low of 83 deals in 2007 to a high of 105 in 2010. While the median capital invested is $8 million, mega-rounds are not uncommon for oncology-focused companies. Four cancer therapeutics developers have raised five rounds of $100 million and more—they are OncoMed Pharmaceuticals, Clovis Oncology, Tesaro and Ascletis.
