Highland Capital Partners has led the $27.8 million Series B financing of Jaunt, a hardware and software solution for cinematic virtual reality. Bringing Jaunt's to-date total in fundraising to over $34 million, the round also received participation from Google Ventures, Redpoint Ventures and British Sky Broadcasting. Launched earlier this year, Jaunt raised its Series A round in April, bringing in almost $7 million at a valuation of $25 million.
Jaunt has developed both a camera system that records 3D stereoscopic video in all directions as well as computational algorithms that transform the recorded video data into formats editable by existing production software. The company's cross-platform viewer also creates content that can be used with VR headsets such as Oculus Rift, among other devices. Oculus VR, creator of Rift, was acquired by Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) earlier this year for over $2 billion.
