Mitchell & Ness is in the business of selling sports nostalgia—retro & throwback hats, jerseys and other merchandise—designed for fans not quite ready to leave the past in the past. An entity owned by Juggernaut Capital Partners has agreed to acquire the company from sportswear giant adidas (ETR: ADS) in a deal that should close by the end of 2Q.
U.S. B2C has seen fairly consistent PE investor activity since 2011, with deal count never falling below 512 and never rising above 636, according to the PitchBook Platform. Very recent history shows what could be the beginning of a trend, however, with 2014 (636 deals) and 2015 (623) serving as the only years since 2011 in which deal count has topped 600. So far in 2016, PE investors are a bit behind that pace, with 184 completed transactions.
