Justin.tv lets users create and share live video. Users can browse thousands of broadcasters streaming their news, radio, entertainment, animals, sports and personal social channels. The platform has found success, with viewers watching more than 300 million live streams available in over 250 countries each month. In fact, the company’s competitive gaming channel attracted so much traffic that it was spun off into a separate network called Twitch.tv in 2011. Justin.tv was also behind the popular mobile video-sharing app Socialcam, which was acquired by Autodesk for about $60 million last year.
In general, the online video industry is a hot market, as evidenced by the number of big name companies getting involved in the space. Aside from companies like Justin.tv, Viddy and, of course, YouTube, Twitter recently introduced video-sharing service Vine, and even more recently, Instagram added video capabilities to its highly popular photo-sharing app.
