KKR to acquire 50% of Swedish industrial R&D company

KKR has agreed to acquire a combined 50% stake in Välinge, a Swedish industrial R&D company. The firm will acquire two separate 20% stakes from current minority owners Kronospan and Swiss Krono Group and an additional 10% interest from the company’s founder. The transaction will be funded primarily from KKR's European Fund IV. Founded in 1993, Välinge is an R&D and IP company with a focus on wood-based technologies and the flooring and furniture industries. The company’s 2015 license income and EBITDA are expected to be €86 million and €46 million, respectively.
