El Pollo Loco priced its IPO at $15, the top of its expected range, and went public on the NASDAQ under the symbol LOCO. At the IPO price, it has a market value of about $538 million. The proceeds will go toward repaying debt, of which the company has nearly $290 million. Backed by Trimaran Capital Partners and Freeman Spogli & Co., El Pollo closed its first day of trading at $24.03, up about 60%. Trimaran bought it for a reported $436 million in 2005; Freeman Spogli invested around $45 million for a minority stake a few years later.
