PitchBook, in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment, will be on the road this week to investigate the venture capital and startup scene in Canada's most populous province. Ontario has comprised nearly half of all venture capital investment in Canada since 2012, and is home to innovative tech and business startups, such as Chango, Vidyard and Wattpad. The province also saw its best year for VC investing in 2012, according to the PitchBook Platform, with its local companies receiving $473.1 million across 82 investments—up from $435.6 million and 67 deals in 2011.
PitchBook’s Adley Bowden, director of research, and Cristine Carlton, broadcast and multimedia associate, will report on the drivers for this growth in investment with articles, videos and interviews with CEOs and VCs. Be sure to watch for updates throughout the week, as well as a full report next week.
