Oracle buys Moat in its second acquisition of the week
April 20, 2017
Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) has agreed to acquire Moat, the provider of an analytics platform that helps advertisers measure user engagement with online ads. The tech giant will pay nearly $1 billion for Moat, per Axios. Founded in 2010, the New York-based adtech company has raised a total of $68 million in VC funding, including a $50 million financing led by Insight Venture Partners last March at a valuation of $434 million. The purchase comes amid a flurry of acquisitions in the adtech space.
The acquisition is Oracle’s third of the year and comes just two days after it purchased Wercker, the creator of a platform for developing and deploying business apps. Oracle acquired nine companies in 2016, up from four the year before, per PitchBook data, and is on track to continue its buying spree this year.
