NewLeaf Symbiotics, an agricultural bio company, has closed its Series B round on $17 million. Otter Capital led the round and was joined by existing investors RockPort Capital, Open Prairie Ventures and Pangaea Ventures. The company develops tech based on beneficial plant bacteria that symbiotically assist host plants grow faster, stay healthier and generate higher yields, removing the need for synthetic fertilizers. Proceeds from the funding will go to accelerate the company's R&D program, ramp up production to commercial scale, and go to market. NewLeaf raised its $7 million Series A funding round in January 2013, grabbing a valuation of $12 million.
