Bluestar Alliance has agreed to acquire a majority stake in English Laundry. Christopher Wicks, CEO and creative director of the company, will retain a significant minority interest and continue to serve as creative director. English Laundry is a music-driven lifestyle brand with products such as suits, dress shirts, jackets, headwear, bottoms and accessories. The company is being advised by Roth Capital Partners.
Since the beginning of 2008, 113 PE investors have invested in 118 companies in the Apparel & Accessories industry, according to the PitchBook Platform. PE activity in the industry made a strong recovery last year with 40 completed deals and a median deal size of $32 million, up from only 26 deals and a median of $25 million for 2009, and although the 40 deals is still short of 2008's 52, 2010's median deal size did measure up to 2008's $31.2 million. With four completed deals under its belt, 2011 is poised for a good showing. Of the 113 PE investors recently active in the Apparel & Accessories industry, the most active include Sun Capital Partners with 9 deals, Golden Gate Capital with 6 and Windsong Brands with 5.
