The Keystone State has seen its fair share of PE activity in the past decade; since 2004 began, PE firms have invested in 831 companies headquartered in Pennsylvania, with activity peaking at 129 deals in 2007, according to the PitchBook Platform. The giddy heights of 2007 have yet to be eclipsed, although deal activity made a healthy recovery in 2011, rising to 107 deals from a low of 65 in 2009.
Deal activity ranged over a wide variety of industries. B2B and B2C led the pack with 39% and 18% of the state's deal flow during the time period, respectively. The healthcare industry came in third, weighing in at 16%. With 10 and three deals already completed in the B2B and B2C spaces, respectively, in 2014 to date, both industries are ahead of their 2013 pace. Among this year's B2C deals is Catterton Partners' recent investment in EyeSee360 (full story below).
