Since the beginning of 2007, 114 Movie, Music and TV companies have been involved in or are in the process of receiving PE investments, according to the PitchBook Platform. Deal activity in the industry dropped from 44 deals in 2007 to 30 in 2008 and to only 17 in 2009. By this time last year, there were 13 deals. With 14 deals so far in 2010, it's likely the industry won't experience a large recovery this year like some others. The slower recovery may be due in part to shifting consumer interests as people explore more non-traditional sources of media entertainment. Of the 99 investors who have invested in the industry, the most active include Providence Equity Partners (7 deals), Arlington Capital Partners (5), Thomas H. Lee Partners (4) and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (3).
