While the private equity industry can be a serious place, there has still been some time for fun and games (or at least investing in companies that deal with fun and games), especially this year. Since the beginning of 2003, PE investors have completed 163 investments in U.S. or Canadian companies primarily involved in the Recreational Goods industry, according to the PitchBook Platform. 23 of those deals occurred this year, making 2012 the busiest year ever for the industry. The most active players (or, more specifically, investors) in the space over the last ten years have been American Capital, Audax Group, Fenway Partners and Irving Place Capital, with five deals apiece.
