Pulse Continues to Strengthen for Healthcare Tech Activity
January 04, 2013
The Healthcare Technology Systems industry had its best year ever last year, in terms of completed private equity deals. Investment activity in the industry has been on a general upward trend since the late 1990s. Last year, PE investors completed 36 investments in Healthcare Technology Systems companies headquartered in the U.S. or Canada, according to the PitchBook Platform. That's three more than the industry's previous record for a single year of 33 set in 2008, which was a particularly stellar year for the industry, preceded by 2007, when there were 21 deals, and followed by 2009, which saw 25. All in all, 154 such deals have been completed since the beginning of 2008. Companies primarily focused on Medical Records Systems, like SRS Software (included in today's newsletter), have been the target of almost a quarter of those deals.
