Sonendo is developing technology to fix problems associated with root canals. The company has raise $35 million in VC funding to aid in its endeavor from lead investor Meritech Capital Partners, with participating investment coming from SEB Private Equity, Fjord Ventures, OrbiMed Advisors and NeoMed Management. Proceeds will be used to further development, fund clinical studies and commercialize its GentleWave technology. The technology employs broad spectrum sonic energy to quickly loosen and remove all tissue, debris and bacteria from the canal, rather than through use of the traditional file method. Its first funding came in 2007 when it raised $2.5 million from Jet Ventures and 3M. Since then, it has raised about $70 million in equity and $10 million in venture debt—a summer 2013 round giving it a valuation of $74.3 million.
