Stratasys (NASDAQ: SSYS), a manufacturer of 3D printing equipment, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire GrabCAD in an all-cash deal, reportedly for about $100 million. GrabCAD offers a cloud-based collaboration platform that allows engineers and designers to share, view and manage CAD files and other design data. It also offers a large public CAD file library to its community of over 1.5 million members. The acquisition, which is expected to close near the end of September, will enable Stratasys to provide its customers with enhanced collaboration tools and accessibility to 3D CAD content, aiding them with 3D design for printing different objects. GrabCAD had raised over $14 million in VC prior to the acquisition, receiving a valuation of over $34 million with its last raise in 2012. Investors in GrabCAD include TechStars, Matrix Partners, Atlas Venture and Charles River Ventures.
