Software-as-a-service (SaaS) has seen a remarkably consistent rise in VC activity over the past six-plus years. In 2010, VCs completed 836 deals in the sector globally, with a combined value of $4.8 billion; those numbers ballooned to an eye-popping 2,454 deals with a value of $30.9 billion last year, according to the PitchBook Platform. Since the beginning of 2010, over 3,200 venture investors have participated in financing a SaaS startup, with one-third of those being active in the past six months.
