As PitchBook's recent U.S. Venture Industry Report points out, VC fundraising in the U.S. has been very strong in 2014 thus far. The year is on pace to see more than 200 vehicles close—something that hasn't happened since the turn of the century. But what is just as interesting is how much capital has been raised, due in large part to five separate funds eclipsing $1 billion in size. In all, U.S. VC funds have raised $25.1 billion so far this year (through September 30), a number that is at least $675 million richer taking into account the recent announcement of Canaan Partners' new fund.
