These 10 Edtech Companies Raised the Most VC Funding in 2014

VC investors poured over $1.2 billion into edtech companies in 2014, according to the PitchBook Platform, marking the first time the industry vertical has reached or eclipsed the billion-dollar milestone. While that's an impressive accomplishment, the success of the edtech space has been brewing for quite some time. Since the beginning of 2010, capital invested in edtech companies has increased each year, jumping from $321 million then to a record $1.26 billion in 2014.
Already in 2015, there have been 11 completed edtech financings worth $277 million. Lynda.com accounts for the largest portion of this year's total, landing a $186 million round at a valuation of $831 million. The next largest deal of 2015 so far involved NetDragon's education subsidiary, which garnered a $52.5 million investment that valued it at $478 million.
