According to a recent SEC filing, global investment firm Tiger Global Management has raised a new $1.5 billion venture fund, Tiger Global Private Investment Partners VIII. The fund's predecessor, which closed in March 2012, raised $1.49 billion of capital commitments. The firm has made a healthy amount of investments in VC-backed companies as of late, and the rounds in which it has participated have for the most part been enormous. Tiger Global has already taken part in 10 VC financings in 2014, with the majority of those rounds easily eclipsing $50 million in total capital invested. At least three of those financings were for companies that commanded a valuation of $1 billion or more (Eventbrite, Actifio and OnDeck).
