With Sycamore Partners recently agreeing to acquire fashion department store Belk at a $3 billion enterprise value, we decided to take a closer look at PE investor activity in the global B2C space. Between 2011 and 2013, B2C deal flow was relatively flat, however activity jumped over 13% YoY in 2014 to reach 1,166 deals, according to the PitchBook Platform, the sector's most completed transactions since 2007. Interestingly, although we have seen add-ons account for an increasing amount of PE deals recently, traditional buyouts have accounted for the bulk share of B2C investments over the past decade.
