2012 was the first year over $1 billion had been invested in network security companies in the U.S. ($1.16 billion). 2014 is shaping up to be another big year for the industry as investors are pouring in money at a record pace. Almost halfway through the year, 42 deals have brought investment totaling about $727 million. Since the beginning of that record year of 2012, 249 VC investors have participated in 212 deals involving U.S. network security companies, according to the PitchBook Platform. The industry is attracting the heavy hitters of VC too, with seven of the investors managing at least $5 billion in total assets, and another 57 firms managing between $1 billion and $5 billion.
