PE investors may be finding their way back to the global retail sector following a period of declining deal flow. According to the PitchBook Platform, the industry is on pace to close about 100 deals in 2015, representing a potential 20% YoY jump. Following PE's 130 retail deals in 2012, activity dropped over 43% to 74 in 2013, followed by a modest bump to 83 last year; thus far in 2015, we have already seen 44 transactions close. Interestingly, amid the growing popularity of minority investments, buyouts have accounted for 43% of deals in the space this year, which would set a decade record if that ratio holds up.
